Âé¶¹AV Rockets outscored 17-2 to start eastern road trip

The Âé¶¹AV Rockets eastern road swing is off to a rough start.

Âé¶¹AV fell 10-2 to the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday night (Mar. 1) and then 7-0 to Calgary Hitmen on Sunday afternoon. 

While the Rockets opened the scoring just under eight minutes into the first period, the Rebels responded with 10 straight goals until Âé¶¹AV added one more to its total late in the third. Red Deer cashed in five times on the power play while Âé¶¹AV struggled to generate much offence. Tyler Coupland scored four times for the Rebels and added one assist.

Âé¶¹AV switched out goaltenders half way through the second period, after Rhett Stoesser was scored on six times and was replaced by Jake Pilon. Red Deer went 5-9 on the power play while both Rockets goals came on the power play. Âé¶¹AV was outshot 56-26. 

In Calgary, Carson Wetsch had a hat trick as the Hitmen dominated the entire game with going 5-7 on the power play and outshooting Âé¶¹AV 49-23. Jake Pilon took the 7-0 loss in goal for the Rockets.

The Rockets are in Medicine Hat on Tuesday (Mar. 4) and Lethbridge on Wednesday. Âé¶¹AV returns home on Mar. 14 when they host the Kamloops Blazers at Prospera Place.
