An outstanding weekend (Mar. 8-10) for members of the Âé¶čAV Gymnastix Acrobatic team at Gymnastics in the Park in Edmonton, Alta.
All of the athletes on the team placed on the podium.
Gold:
- Womenâs Pair Ysabella Noelle Lano & Oliva Clark.
Silver:
- Level 7 Womenâs Pair Brooklyn Fletcher & Sofia Tremblay;
- Level 8 Womenâs Group Kinsley Huber, Faith Conway & Avery Osachoff.
Bronze:
- Level 7 Womenâs Pair Callie English & Heidi Stojke;
- Womenâs Group Erica Stojke, Sarah Lawless, and Junelle Sabang.
The competition included teams from B.C., Alta., and Sask.
Joining the team as a new coach this year from Ukraine is renowned dance instructor Natalia Tesla. She had an immediate impact on improving the artistry and choreography of the team.
âIt was exciting to see the Âé¶čAVâs team efforts and growth in artistry, their improvement over last year were notable,â said Nancy Carrs, international judge and Pan Americans Gymnastics Union representative.
Head Coach Shawna De Leske was also impressed with the teamâs performance.
âSeeing our five teams compete in their first competition of the season challenges us to continue improving as the competition season goes along.â
Team Captain, Junelle Sabang pointed out that âit was amazing to see such a young developing team all place on the podium. â
The team will compete at the International Las Vegas Acro Cup in April.
There will also be a local Acrobatic Gymnastics event hosting teams from across Canada and the USA in May, the Grizzly Classic.
Acrobatic gymnastics is a competitive discipline of gymnastics where partners work together and perform high-flying Cirque De Soleil style moves, dance, and tumbling choreographed to music.
