Outgoing Âé¶čAV Rocketsâ goaltender Michael Herringer has committed to the University of Regina Cougars for the upcoming 2017-2018 U Sports regular season.
âThe University of Regina is a smaller school with smaller class sizes so that was appealing for me,â said Herringer. âBeing a small town kid, some of the big schools seemed a bit overwhelming. Their coach Todd Johnson is a very energetic and enthusiastic guy and he wanted me more than other schools. Being pursued like that made me want to go there over other schools that just sent out generic letters of interest.â
The 1996-born goaltender just completed his third and final season with the Rockets.
After originally being drafted in the ninth round of the WHL Bantam draft by the Victoria Royals and playing only two games, Herringer was acquired via trade and played in 113 games with Âé¶čAV. He finished his WHL career with a record of 71-29-5-0.
He also played in 39 playoff games with the Rockets, posting a record of 21-17. He was part of the WHL championship-winning Rockets team in 2015.
âThe Rockets helped me a lot,â he said. âYou come to Âé¶čAV as a boy and you leave as a man. They focus a lot on maturing, commitment, leadership, time management, work ethic, and being a good citizen,â told Herringer. âAll things that will only help me in Regina.â
âHerryâ, as he was known by his coaches and teammates, will be taking Kinesiology and Human Kinetics at the U of R.
