The consequences compounded for a man after police found him asleep behind the wheel of his SUV, and subsequently discovered other violations.
At 1 a.m. on June 13, Salmon Arm RCMP located a driver passed out in a black Chevy Tahoe parked on 10th Avenue SW, with the key in the ignition. Officers woke and identified the man, as well as other infractions.
"Police learned the driver was prohibited from driving, the vehicle had no insurance, and was also subject to an overdue box 2 vehicle inspection," Const. Andrew Hodges said in a media release.
The 54-year old man was given a future court date for driving while prohibited, a $598 violation ticket for having no insurance, a box 1 vehicle inspection, and a new driving prohibition.
According to the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, the box 1 inspection required the vehicle be immediately removed from the road until it complies with the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations, whereas under the box 2, the owner had 30 days to a designated facility, have it repaired and pass a full mechanical inspection.
