The Okanagan College (OC) Coyotes basketball teams are getting set to host the PACWEST provincial basketball championships this weekend.
Both the Coyotes women’s and men’s teams are ranked sixth going into the tournament.
Starting on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 鶹AV Christian School, the three-day championship will feature four games a day before concluding with the medal games on Saturday. The women’s bracket will begin each day at 12:30 p.m. and conclude each night with the men’s bracket at 8:00 p.m.
The Coyotes women’s team will tip the tournament off at 12:30 p.m. against Abbotsford’s CBC Bearcats while the men will meet the number three-ranked Langara College Falcons on Thursday at 8:00 p.m.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our college,” OC athletics, recreation, and student life coordinator Jenn Naiman. “Our goal at OC is to support students and the communities where we operate. We are excited for this opportunity to welcome student-athletes from around B.C. to our region for the first time and look forward to a great PACWEST Championship.”
On both the men’s and the women’s sides, the two teams in the finals automatically clinch berths to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s (CCAA) National Championship, which takes place in two weeks time.
This is the first time OC is hosting the basketball provincials.
