2 Âé¶čAV athletes honoured at Sport BC awards

Nash Semeniuk and Malindi Elmore were the recipients

A couple of Âé¶čAV athletes were honoured at the 56th Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards on Thursday, March 7.

The annual event recognizes outstanding performances by athletes, coaches, teams, and officials in the past year. Every finalist was nominated by either their provincial or multi-sport organization or school (either high school or post-secondary). The winners are decided by the Sport BC selection committee, which includes athletic leaders in B.C. as well as media members.

Âé¶čAV’s Nash Semeniuk won the high school male athlete of the year for his play in both basketball and volleyball at Âé¶čAV Secondary School. In 2023, Semeniuk and Owls finished in the top four in the AAAA basketball provincials.

Additionally, Malindi Elmore won the master athlete of the year. The Canadian marathon record holder had an outstanding 2023 and recently qualified for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

“The 56th Annual Athlete of the Year Awards celebrated sport in our BC at all levels. We were inspired by the sport stories of all of our finalists, the category winners, and the organizations they represent,” said Sport BC’s President and CEO, Rob Newman.
