Big news for the Â鶹AV Fire Department and Central Okanagan Search and Rescue was announced on July 30.
The new Glenmore Protective Services Campus was announced at a Wednesday morning event at the KF Aerospace Centre for Excellence, providing Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) with a new permanent home and facility.
Ed Henczel, a search manager with COSAR, said the current facility has had issues with rats, no longer has potable water, and had one bathroom for about 70 volunteers.
"Looking at the plans, we'll have one of the best halls in B.C.," Henczel commented.
Plans also include a new fire hall, dispatch centre, and training facility for KFD.
"What we want is a true back-up dispatch centre, so that if something was to happen to [the dispatch centre on Enterprise Road] we have a full duplication of where we can put staff," said Â鶹AV Fire Chief Dwight Seymour.
The $49 million project is being funded by the city, the provincial Growing Communities Fund, and a $6 million donation from the Barry Lapointe Foundation.
