The Central Okanagan School District is clarifying information regarding electric bikes/scooters at elementary and middle schools in the region.
Some parents in the district received an email, last week, stating that e-scooters and e-bikes would no longer be permitted at elementary or middle schools.
However, on June 29, Superintendent of Schools/CEO Kevin Kaardal said that a message that referred to district policy or a âbanâ on electric bikes/scooters was incorrect.
âSafety is always our priority, and we educate students and families to encourage getting to and from school safely,â said Kaardal.
Instead, Kaardal said that some School District 23 schools recently reminded parents about the BC Motor Vehicle Act rules on the use of e-bikes and e-scooters.
âSome messages created a false impression that there is a district-wide policy to enforce these rules, and we apologize for any confusion,â said Kaardal. âAlthough Central Okanagan Public Schools does not have such a policy, we will continue to work with families and authorities to educate on safety and compliance with provincial laws.â
