A recent 100 Women Who Care Â鶹AV event at Dunnenzies in the Mission raised an impressive $9,150 in under an hour for a local non-profit farm that’s fighting food insecurity across the Central Okanagan.
Helen’s Acres is a 24-acre urban farm powered by volunteers and community partnerships. This year it is on track to harvest 120,000 pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables—all of it donated to people in need.
The donation will help fund a new greenhouse at the farm, allowing Helen’s Acres to grow more food year-round and bolster their impact.
Event attendees also heard from Meals on Wheels and Friends of the Okanagan Rail Trail, two local groups working to improve life in the community.
Four times a year, each woman in the group donates $100. After listening to three quick presentations, members vote—and one non-profit walks away with a game-changing gift.
The next giving event is set for Tuesday, Aug.13, at Cristalina Parc at 3101 Lakeshore Road, and all women in the community are welcome to join or attend as guests.
The Â鶹AV chapter is part of a global group of women pooling their donations to support local charities.
