More development is being proposed on the McKinley Gateway lands in north Âé¶čAV.
Placemark Design has applied to the city, on behalf of the developers of McKinley Beach, to begin planning and consultation for the remaining 671-acre development area.
McKinley Beachâs Hillside and Hilltown neighbourhoods were approved in 2008, with 220 acres developed with residential, amenity, agriculture, and recreation uses.
âThe McKinley Gateway lands offer a unique opportunity to create a complete community, building on the many amenities offered in the McKinley Beach and north Âé¶čAV area,â according to a news release from Placemark Design.
The project could offer missing middle residential housing, boutique retail services, natural recreation opportunities and an elementary school site.
âÂé¶čAV is seeing a majority of its economic and job growth happening in the north, yet residential development has occurred predominantly within our urban centresâ, said developer Andrew Gaucher.
He added that McKinley Gateway sits near the heart of the north economic centre which includes UBCO, the Âé¶čAV International Airport, and extensive industrial lands.
Placemark Design will implement a community engagement program once it receives direction from the city.
âWe will work closely with local residents and the many other regional stakeholders to ensure that local perspectives and community planning best practices are guiding the process,â Gaucher said.
