An early morning fire on Leon Avenue prompted a quick response from the Â鶹AV fire department.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 27, crews received reports of a fire inside the Cornerstone homeless shelter on Leon Ave.

Fire personnel promptly extinguished the blaze, which had started on the ground floor of the building.

"Ventilation was started right away and crews were able to contain fire to the area of origin and the water damage to the first floor," said Â鶹AV fire captain Jason Picklyk. "There was no extension into walls or other floors."

No injuries were reported, and the Â鶹AV Fire Department (KFD) responded with 17 total personnel.

The KFD is reminding the public to check their smoke alarms regularly.
