Hot and dry weather create the perfect conditions for wildfires and the Regional District of Central Okanagan is urging park users to be cautious.
"A single careless act, like a discarded cigarette, can have devastating consequences for our parks, wildlife and nearby communities," said manager of parks operations Matt Hammond. "Fire safety and emergency preparedness is everyone’s responsibility.â€
All regional and community park visitors are being reminded that smoking, vaping, or any open flames are prohibited inside the parks. Propane-fueled barbecues are allowed but must be attended to at all times.
Fines for violating parks bylaws can be up to $2,000.
