An estimated 200 people came out to the annual Walk for Alzheimer’s in 鶹AV.

Lead volunteer Guy Bird has been volunteering for the walk for four years. He said it’s his way of giving back to the society after it supported him and his wife during her 12 year journey with Alzheimer’s.

Not only did the society have programs to support his wife, but they also had options for him as a caregiver.

Bird offered advice to anyone who finds themselves diagnosed with dementia or who has a loved one diagnosed.

“Don’t be afraid to ask for help. It doesn’t make you weak, it makes you smart.”

Before the walk began at 1 p.m. on May 26, Bird said they had raised over $29,000 online. He couldn’t estimate how much was brought in during the walk.

Team Mann Power brought it the largest amount of money fundraising over $8,000 as a team. The team walked in support of mom and grandma Valorie Mann who continues to battle the disease.

Mann and her family led the walk around city park.

The Lion’s Club was on hand to serve food to all attendees.

The Walk for Alzheimer’s is the Alzheimer’s Society of B.C.’s largest annual fundraiser.
