Salmon Arm's architectural history is being celebrated in R.J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum's latest exhibit.
The show, Meet the Register: Re-painted and Re-acquainted, features the variety of properties on Salmon Arm's Community Heritage Register. That includes everything from old public buildings like the Municipal Hall, Court House and Salmar Theatre, private homes like Hillcrest Manor and Lyman House, as well as green spaces like McGuire Lake Park and Dodd/Hanna Orchards.
The exhibit also celebrates Haney House's City of Salmon Arm 2025 Heritage Conservation Award that recognizes the museum in the institutional category for excellence in preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, and adaptive reuse of built heritage.
While the register has 58 buildings, sites, farms, and parks, just 44 have been included in the exhibit. Some have been renovated, added onto, or restored, while others have not aged as gracefully but are no less historically important in the city.
Thanks to the Shuswap Photo Arts Club, people can see the locations then and now, and listen to what community members associated with properties have to say about them. In making the exhibit, curated by Morgan Ryder and Deborah Chapman, 25 interviews were conducted and can be viewed on the museum's YouTube channel .
The exhibit opened July 2 and runs until Sept. 26.
