Head of Ballet Âé¶čAV heading into 10th year with company

Simone Orlando previously danced with the National Ballet of Canada

Ballet Âé¶čAV artistic director and CEO Simone Orlando is excited to head into her 10th year with the company.

Orlando said the local organization was the first professional dance company to commission her in 2005 and when the role of artistic director and CEO became available in 2014 she jumped at the opportunity.

Highlights of Orlando include the new building for Ballet Âé¶čAV and the collaboration with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra in 2017.

“I really enjoy being able to take the works that we’ve commissioned here on the road and our touring has really expanded over the past 10 years. We used to just tour in B.C., but now we’ve gone further to Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada, and next season we should be expanding into the U.S.”

Orlando choreographed a piece to open the 2023/24 season called “Studies of Cash” featuring the music of Johnny Cash,

The company will also perform “The Forever Part” choreographed by Kirsten Wicklund and a new piece by guest artist and choreographer Jake Poloz titled “The Royal We”.

The performances will be held at Âé¶čAV Community Theatre on Nov. 3 and 4 starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or at the KCT box office.
