For a group of players that came together just a week before the tournament, the Â鶹AV Heat didn't look at all out of step last weekend at High Noon Park.
In the end, the Heat came up just a run short of winning of the U12 B title at the annual Spring Sizzle girls fastball tourney.
The Â鶹AV team, consisting of players from Â鶹AV, West Â鶹AV, Penticton and Barriere, was perfect in the round robin, posting a 3-0 record thanks to wins over the Langley Extreme (9-2), Abbotsford Valley Venom (9-1) and Coquitlam Classics (8-2).
In the semifinal, the Heat then beat the Classics again 7-3 to advance to the in the final.
In the championship game, Â鶹AV went to an extra inning against the Langley Extreme before losing 6-5.
"The team was put together just a week before the tournament and we played against seven teams from the coast that play together year round," said Heat coach Scott Binne. "It was unbelievable."
The U12 Heat are: Ryley Binne, Jayce Cyra, Cassie McConell, Georgia Clough, Danielle Collins,
Hunter Eskritt, Isabella Green, Alexei Jensen, Madysin Martin-Brewer, Sydney Morris, Eden Tonhauser and Emma Watson.
The coaches are Scott Binne, Derek Cyra, Michelle Webster and Emma Gilbert.
Meanwhile, Â鶹AV Heat took third place in the silver bracket of the Spring Sizzle's U14B tournament.
