The 鶹AV Rockets have locked in a key piece of their future, signing 15-year-old defenceman Will Kelts to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.
Kelts, a 6-foot-2, 192-pound left-shot blueliner from Consort, Alta was the Rockets’ first-round pick—20th overall—in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft last month.
He’s coming off an impressive season with the Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep team in the CSSHL, where he notched 13 goals and 26 assists for 39 points in 35 games. He added another three assists in five playoff appearances, and got a short stint with the U18 squad, tallying four points in three games.
Kelts netted two goals and seven assists at the , where he helped lead the Xtreme to a championship title, and finished as one of the top-scoring defencemen in the event.
He also suited up for Team Alberta Blue at the 2025 Alberta Cup, putting up three assists in five games and earning a spot at Hockey Alberta’s Male U16 Summer Camp in Red Deer (July 10-6). The camp is a step in the selection process for Team Alberta’s WHL Cup roster.
“Will is a big, strong, physical defenseman that can skate, is very responsible defensively, makes the good, solid first pass out of the zone or has the ability to carry the puck and lead the rush,” said Terry McFaul, the Rockets’ director of player personnel.
Kelts is the first player signed from 鶹AV’s 2025 draft class and is expected to be a key contributor on the blue line in the coming seasons.
