March 7-9 was quite the weekend for a local dojo as it hosted and dominated the Â鶹AV Karate Championship.

The Â鶹AV Karate dojo welcomed karate teams from Vancouver, Victoria, Chilliwack, Revelstoke, and Kaslo and ended up with 37 gold medals, 37 silver, and 34 bronze.

"Incredible to see the growth of our youngest students' maturity on the big stage," said Â鶹AV Sensei Paul Atkin. "We had our country's best athletes showcasing their skills. To see the next generation of kids following the lead of these phenomenal athletes and the impact it has on their mental development is always a rewarding experience. Very proud Sensei."

Â鶹AV's newest black belt, 13-year-old Cayden Adlem was named the grand champion of the whole competition after winning gold in Kata, Jiyu Ippon Kumite, and Kumite.

All athletes from Â鶹AV Karate are now preparing for the upcoming nationals in New Market, Ontario in May. They will be trying to qualify for the Pan American JKA Karate Championships in Mexico City this September.
