In familiar surroundings, two Âé¶¹AV teams more than held their own at the 2016 B.C. U14 C girls fastball championship at High Noon Park.
The Âé¶¹AV Flames won silver, while the host Blue Jays captured bronze as Âé¶¹AV was home to a provincial tournament for the first time in 10 years.
Âé¶¹AV's teams met head on in the semifinals on Sunday, with the Flames prevailing 4-1. The game featured solid pitching and defense, some timely hits, and a fantastic catch at the fence saving a possible home run.
The Flames went to play in Sunday's gold medal final, losing a hard fought game to the Mission Bulldogs.
The Blue Jays finished third, to give Âé¶¹AV two of the top placings in B.C.
With 16 teams competing, there were more than 50 games played over three days at High Noon.
The opening ceremonies were held Friday with a parade of teams, a welcome from Âé¶¹AV-Lake Country MLA and the ceremonial first pitch by the West Âé¶¹AV Warriors.
The Âé¶¹AV Minor Fastball Society has more than 200 girls playing on 13 teams from six to 19 years of age, along with three reps teams which compete all across the province.
