In This Episode: Henri Belisle of TQ Construction and homeowner Dr Janet Simons are back to review the now-completed heritage renovation project. With the goal of achieving a high-performance energy efficiency home, Henri and Janet share lessons learned including design build challenges, scope creep, and even some pesky woodpeckers too.
āWe built it the way we thought would be the best structurally, because thatās what our instinct led us to do. But then going through it, we realized that if we had basically built the stair slightly off the wall, and properly sealed it there, we wouldnāt have lost as much air in the building through that one point.ā Henri Belisle, TQ Construction
āThereās always trade offs. Understanding what we are willing to trade off is important. Thereās always going to be a judgment, is the builder going to talk to the client about this or are they going to make a call on the homeownerās behalf because you canāt be calling 18 times a day for every decision. So, I think thereās some calibration always that goes on there regarding communication.ā Dr Janet Simons, Homeowner.
