West Â鶹AV begins alternative approval process for city hall

Residents have until May 3 to voice their opposition to borrowing over $10 million for the project

West Â鶹AV has started an alternative approval process for the city's proposed civic centre.

From March 23rd through May 3rd, West Â鶹AV residents will have the opportunity to voice their opposition to the borrowing of up to $10.5 million for the construction of a new city hall, which would be part of the larger West Â鶹AV Civic Centre project. To oppose the project, residents need to fill out a form, which is available at the West Â鶹AV municipal hall, located at 2760 Cameron Road.

To take the loan to a referendum, 10 percent of eligible West Â鶹AV voters, or 2,603 people, would need to submit their form of opposition by the 4 p.m. deadline on May 3. If fewer than 2,603 forms are submitted, the borrowing of funds will be considered approved.

More information on the project will be available at an open house on Wednesday, April 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Westbank Lions Hall. West Â鶹AV council will be at the open house, where a presentation will be given before a question and answer period.

The proposed hall would be located at 3641 Elliot Road, and would have 32,215 square feet spread over three stories.
