Following a month-long delay, Vernon's waterslides are ready to make a splash for summer.

Splashdown (formerly Atlantis Waterslides) has been open since July 2, but with limited slides due to a delay in operating permits for some of the older slides.

"We are very pleased to announce that Splashdown is now fully operational for the remainder of the summer season. All slides and attractions have received the necessary permits, and we are excited to welcome you back to enjoy everything we have to offer," the water park announced July 25.

Six of the park's 11 slides were not able to initially open because they failed inspection and operating permits were withheld by Technical Safety BC (TSBC), the regulator that oversees amusement parks in the province.

Given the reduction of the park, Splashdown had to refund tickets and offer tickets at a reduced rate of $18, down from $38.

"This is a huge financial blow," owner Chris Steunenberg told The Morning Star earlier this month, adding Splashdown's two main objectives were keeping as many of its 100 young employees as possible and "trying to serve the community the best we can."

Now the park is fully open until Aug. 31.
