Âé¶čAV RCMP are now releasing the name of a man killed early Friday morning in Rutland in the hopes that anyone with information about this incident will speak to police.
On Aug. 5 at 6:07 a.m., the Âé¶čAV RCMP were called to a residence in the 400 block of Hein Road for reports of shots being fired. When emergency crews arrived on scene they located Benjamin Cory Virgint deceased inside his home.
âThe Âé¶čAV RCMP Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) continue to probe Virgintâs death, as investigators continue to work closely with the BC Coroners Serviceâ said Const. Jesse OâDonaghey, in a press release.
âAn autopsy of the deceasedâs body is still pending Police strongly believe that this was a targeted attack."

Âé¶čAV RCMP Serious Crimes are investigating an early morning homicide in a Rutland home.
At 6:07 a.m. on Friday morning, Âé¶čAV RCMP were called to a residence in the 400 block of Hein Road for reports of shots being fired.
When emergency crews arrived on scene they located a 35-year-old Âé¶čAV man deceased inside the home. Police have not released the cause of death.
âThe Âé¶čAV RCMP Serious Crimes Unit (SCU) has assumed conduct of the ongoing investigation into the manâs death,â said Âé¶čAV RCMP Cst. Jesse OâDonaghey.
âThe Âé¶čAV RCMP Serious Crimes Unit continue to work closely with the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service.â
âNo arrests have been made at this time, as police continue to search for suspects.â
O'Donaghey added that police don't believe that this was a random attack.

Âé¶čAV RCMP are remaining tightlipped with regards to an incident that occurred on Hein Road this morning.
Police have taped off one side of a duplex on the Rutland street, with a police officer at the scene saying any comment on the matter has to come from the Âé¶čAV detachment.
RCMP are asking the public to avoid the area so as not to disrupt the investigation at the scene.
People at the scene a confronted a Capital News reporter at the scene and demanded that he leave, saying, "There is nothing to see here."
