UPDATE: 1 p.m.

Âé¶čAV RCMP say a taxi driver has been fined after a cab struck the rear end of a transit bus that was stopped at its designated stop Tuesday morning.

Just after 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the Âé¶čAV RCMP Municipal Traffic Section responded to a report of a collision between a BC Transit bus and a taxi on Springfield Road near the intersection of Ziprick Road.

“Initial reports from witnesses at the scene suggest that the transit bus had stopped at a designated bus stop along Springfield to allow passengers to disembark, when it was struck from behind by a commercial taxi,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“The taxi, which struck the left rear corner of the bus, sustained extensive damage.”

O’Donaghey said RCMP are unable to confirm how many passengers were on board the bus at the time of the collision, as many departed the scene prior to police arriving.

“RCMP had not received any reports of any passengers injured in the crash. The driver of the taxi was transported to hospital by BC Ambulance Service for a full medical assessment and treatment of his injuries believed to be non-life-threatening in nature,” added O’Donaghey.

The driver of the taxi was fined under the Motor Vehicle Act for allegedly changing lanes unsafely.

Witnesses may contact Const. Rojas of the Âé¶čAV RCMP Municipal Traffic Section at 250-762-3300.
