A suspect who sparked a multi-detachment man hunt on Tuesday has been captured by police.
Âé¶čAV rural RCMP were called to a report of a domestic assault, on June 27, which had allegedly transpired inside a home in the Big White area. While on the way to the incident officers spotted the suspectâs vehicle and attempted to pull it over; however the suspect failed to stop and fled from police.
According to Cpl. Jesse OâDonaghey, police called in RCMP air services who discovered the suspect vehicle abandoned along a Forestry Service Road.
âSeveral RCMP officers from multiple jurisdictions, which included Âé¶čAV, Midway and Penticton responded to the area, along with RCMP Police Dog Services from the South Okanagan,â stated OâDonaghey.
As the day progressed RCMP called off their search as they discovered the suspect was obviously familiar with the back country and was intent on avoiding capture.
âThanks to valuable tips from vigilant members of the general public, officers returned to the area of Highway 33 earlier this morning in search of a hitch hiker matching our suspectâs description,â said OâDonaghey.
The suspect was located by police along Highway 33, between Westbridge and Rock Creek and was taken into custody without further incident.â
A 27-year-old Âé¶čAV man, faces potential criminal charges. He has since been returned to Âé¶čAV, where he is expected to appear in Court.
