| Mind, Exercise, Nutrition, Do It! (MEND) is a free and fun program that empowers families with kids ages seven to 13 to live healthier, more active lives together as a unit.
Focused on healthy meal planning, goal setting and physical activity, MEND is getting families up and active while instilling lifelong healthy habits in kids at a young age.
Families in YMCA MEND are seeing many benefits from the program, including increased motivation in to eat well and be more active each day.
âWe have become much more conscious about making healthier choices for our family and are so glad we made time,â said parent Monica Mcparland.
Mcparlandâs youngest, Alex, seven, met new friends in the program and enjoyed the active and educational exercises including the grocery store tour and the âMEND survival guide to parties and eating outâ.
MEND includes a free six-month membership at Âé¶čAV Family Y or H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre and consists of practical demonstrations, active games and tips around label reading, portion sizes and choosing healthy foods.
This past June, ParticipActionâs annual report card gave Canadian kids a D- for their level of physical activity for the fourth year in a row. Research indicates that when families decide to adopt healthy practices as a unit, kids are more likely to buy in.
Next MEND sessions starts Jan. 17 at H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre and Jan. 18 at the Âé¶čAV Family YMCA.
For more information and to reserve your spot please contact Raj Nijjar. A YMCA membership is not a requirement in order to participate in this program.
