Poignant ceremony marks VE Day

Âé¶¹AV branch of the Royal Canadian Legion gathers for anniversary of the end of World War II

Small Canadian flags were placed on the graves of of veterans at Âé¶¹AV’s Lakeview Memorial Gardens in an annual ceremony to honour soldiers who died serving their country.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 (Âé¶¹AV) hosted the event on Monday, the anniversary of VE Day, May 8, 1945.

A colour guard was on hand for the brief ceremony, held each year by the Âé¶¹AV Legion.

VE Day is celebrated on May 8 each year, marking the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender of its armed forces.

It thus marked the end of World War II in Europe.

Several residents gathered for the ceremony on Monday in Âé¶¹AV, honouring those local soldiers who passed away in service to their country.
