John Perrott (left) has seen his manager of economic development and partnerships position with the City of Vernon terminated after four years. Cocine Wattie (left) is now the city's economic development coordinator.

In is an economic development coordinator at the City of Vernon.

Out is its manager of economic development.

John Perrott was let go by the city in what he termed “an unforeseen change,” while Cocine Wattie has become a new coordinator. Both individuals made the announcements on their Linked In profiles.

Asked why the changes were made, the city replied in an email to the Morning Star: “The City of Vernon does not comment on items related to personnel. However, we are in the midst of a comprehensive review of our operations as part of 2026 budget preparations.

“This process is designed to identify opportunities for efficiency, drive innovation, and ensure resource alignment with council, community and organizational priorities.”

Perrott was hired by the city in 2021 as economic development and tourism manager. His title became manager of economic development and partnerships in February 2024.

Perrott, who came to Vernon after 10 years in the same roles at the City of West Âé¶čAV, was caught off-guard by his dismissal. He did, however, thank the city for the opportunity and was ready to move on.

“I'm energized and excited for the next chapter, eager to pursue fresh opportunities for growth and impact,” he said.

“I am deeply appreciative of the invaluable experiences and the robust community connections and partnerships cultivated during my time in Vernon. A heartfelt thank you to all my colleagues and community partners for your collaboration and unwavering support – your contributions truly made my work meaningful.”

Wattie used one line to make the announcement of her new job within the city: "I'm happy to share that I'm starting a new position as Economic Development Coordinator at City of Vernon, BC."

Her profile shows Wattie has been a full-time city employee for three years. She has been a development clerk, administrative assistant, and lead project coordinator.
