Penticton RCMP is warning of a new scam circulating the province that targets seniors.

Police said the scam involves someone approaching an elderly individual, attempting to put a fake gold chain around the victim's neck after a conversation. While putting the chain on, the scammer steals the real jewellery the victim is wearing and runs off.

"Police are asking the public to report this suspicious behaviour immediately and share information about this scam with their elderly relatives and friends," Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional RCMP said in a social media post.
