Alcohol impaired crash stalls traffic on Âé¶čAV bridge

An allegedly impaired driver is facing charges after crashing and stalling traffic on W.R. Bennett Bridge Thursday afternoon.

The driver faces penalties under the BC Motor Vehicle Act after crashing and stalling traffic on the bridge crossing Okanagan Lake between Âé¶čAV and West Âé¶čAV.

On May 17, at 4:29 p.m., the Âé¶čAV RCMP received a report of a single vehicle crash, involving a Ford F-150 pickup truck, on the W.R. Bennett Bridge neat Abbott Street in Âé¶čAV. Witnesses observed the Ford truck being driven erratically westbound on the highway and weaving in and out of vehicles, prior to colliding with the centre concrete meridian.

“During the officer’s interaction with the driver of the Ford truck at the collision scene, they detected signs of possible alcohol intoxication. As a result a demand was made of the driver who failed to properly provided samples of her breath roadside,” said Const. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“The woman was subsequently issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition for refusing the lawful roadside demand to provide samples of her breath,” O’Donaghe said.

The driver, a 32-year-old Âé¶čAV woman, and her two small children passengers were not injured in the crash.

The woman’s vehicle was removed from the scene and impounded.
