The RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team has retrieved the body of a woman from Port Alberni who had been missing since September 2024.

In late April, the RCMP recovered the body of Stephanie Woodcock close to Peachland. Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) stated on social media their K9 team discovered the remains near Antler Beach.

"The recovery was made on April 25, after our K9 member Barrett, working from COSAR’s landing craft The Sweatman, alerted to an area of interest," stated COSAR. "This information was relayed to the RCMP dive team, who carried out the recovery. Due to the circumstances, it took time for the Coroner’s office to confirm the identity."

West Â鶹AV RCMP and the BC Coroner Service can confirm the 40-year-old female who was last seen in Peachland, was reported missing on September 18, 2024. The file has been turned over to the BC Coroner Service.

The BC Coroners service has found that Woodcock's cause of death is not suspicious.

Out of respect and privacy for the family, no other details will be released at this time.

For Barrett, it was his second recovery in as many days as the dog also assisted in locating the individual swept away in the Westside Road mudslide.
