West 麻豆AV鈥檚 new Fire Hall 32 is nearly complete, and according to Fire Chief Jason Brolund, everything is going better than expected.

鈥淲e are ahead of schedule, we are on budget with this project, and we are very excited about the new fire hall,鈥� Brolund told council at its July 22 meeting. 鈥淚t is almost done. We鈥檝e almost got this one across the finish line.鈥�

He added that risks are shrinking, and one of the project鈥檚 biggest concerns, coordinating with BC Hydro to power up the facility, has been addressed. 

鈥淐rews were there today (July 22),鈥� he said. 鈥淭hat only helps to ensure that our schedule remains on track or even ahead.鈥�

The $14.3-million facility is slated for substantial completion by August 29, with hopes of being operational by the end of October.

Brolund praised those behind the build. 

鈥淭here is a tremendous team from Colliers (project lead) and Chandos (construction lead) who are working hard to get this project across the line, and we鈥檝e had great cooperation from BC Hydro as well, who committed to being on site and turning on our power prior to Aug. 22.鈥�

Brolund added that visible changes are happening daily. 

鈥淭hat gets us a bit closer to being in the fire hall, the park space and the community space,鈥� he said.

The contractor鈥檚 most recent projection shows the building will be ready for occupancy one week earlier than previously expected. 

Colliers, has rated the schedule as low risk and said the budget is stable with a contingency fund of $146,000 remaining.

That figure is expected to be enough to cover any last-minute surprises.
