Construction on the Horizon Drive Active Transportation Corridor Project includes 2.2 kilometres of new bike lanes on both sides of the street.

Horizon Drive is set for a summer facelift, with new bike lanes, sidewalks, and safety upgrades starting July 2.

The project will stretch along Horizon Drive, improving connections between neighbourhoods, schools, parks and local businesses.

Upgrades include:

  • 1.1 kilometres of new sidewalks, curbs and gutters along the west side of Horizon Drive;
  • 2.2 kilometres of new bike lanes on both sides of the street, giving cyclists their own dedicated space;
  • Improved street lighting, stormwater drainage and ditching to handle rain and runoff;
  • New road markings and signage to boost visibility and safety for all road users.

The work is scheduled to continue throughout the summer and wrap up in the fall. Construction will take place on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional weekend work possible.

While the project is underway, pedestrian access will be maintained. Emergency vehicles and school buses will continue to have full access, and the contractor will coordinate local access for residents who live within the construction zone.

The timeline may shift depending on the weather or changes in the contractor’s schedule.

Funding support for the project includes up to $500,000 from the B.C. Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants Program, provided by the Ministry of Transportation and Transit.
