Several 911 calls came in reporting a fire in the grass and trees at the Glenrosa Road/Highway 97 interchange.

West Âé¶čAV investigators now believe a grass fire at the Glenrosa Road and Highway 97 interchange may have been caused by a downed power line.

There were heavy winds in the area at the time, and power was knocked out for parts of West Âé¶čAV, Peachland and Summerland around 4:45 p.m. shortly before the fire was reported.

West Âé¶čAV fire crews made quick work of a grass fire near the Gorman lumber mill on Sunday, Aug. 18.

Several 911 calls came in just before 5 p.m. reporting a fire in the grass and trees at the Glenrosa Road/Highway 97 interchange.

With smoke visible across the city, crews from all four fire stations responded. 

First arriving firefighters worked hard to keep the fire from spreading in dry grass, driven by wind, and crews stopped the fire from reach the mill.

“This is a reminder that we must keep our guard up as fire season continues,” Fire Chief Jason Brollund said in a media release. “The public is thanked for their quick reports of the fire.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, however, Brolund added it was likely human-caused.
