A generous donation will help enhance the playground that is part of the Fire Hall #32 replacement project in West Âé¶čAV.

The gift is coming from the West Âé¶čAV Professional Firefighters Association.

“I think it’s about $50,000,” Councillor Jason Friesen said at council’s Oct. 22 meeting. “It’s one of the things that the organization does through their charitable foundation and I wanted to make sure that was highlighted and not missed because they’re supportive of our community,”

Council received a project progress update which stated the construction timeline started in May and will continue through fall 2025.

“Currently the project budget is low risk, with some contingency items applied, a few cash allowances used, and several other cash allowances being evaluated for costs,” a staff report said.

The project, in the Lakeview Heights neighbourhood, includes sport courts, a playground, pickleball facilities, a community centre building and public green space.

The cost to build the new fire hall is $14.3 million. It includes $8 million being borrowed by the city, reserve funds ($3.8 million), parks development cost charges ($1.18 million), Growing Communities Fund ($1.17 million), and $150,000 from developer contributions.
