RCMP Superintendent Kara Triance was honoured by West Âé¶čAV Council on Dec. 10 for her service to the community.

“We’re grateful you returned home where you’ve been a shining example of excellence in public service and policing,” Mayor Gord Milsom said. “We’re extremely proud of you.”

Triance, who was born and raised on the Westside and graduated from Mount Boucherie Secondary School, was praised for her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and the McDougall Creek wildfire.

“We wish you and your family the best in the next chapter you will have together,” Milsom added. “Please don’t be a stranger to the Westside. You’re always welcome here.”

Triance expressed gratitude for her time serving the community. “There have been teachers, coaches, friends, and family that have supported me over the years. To be able to provide that public service back to our community has been a truly exceptional experience,” she said.

Triance was appointed the first female officer in charge of the Âé¶čAV RCMP detachment, a role she assumed in fall 2020 after being promoted to Superintendent. She was commissioned as an Inspector in 2016 and appointed Officer in Charge of the Sea to Sky RCMP. She also served as Rural Area Commander for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. Her RCMP career began in Richmond in 2000.

She announced her retirement in September, with her final watch ending in December.
