An addition is coming to North Glenmore Elementary School.
The B.C. Governmentâs Ministry of Education and Child Care made the announcement on Wednesday morning (Nov. 29) that 120 seats in five new classrooms are being added and expected to be ready by the start of the 2024/25 school year.
âWe are expanding schools to meet the needs of our growing communities,â said Minister of Education and Child Care Rachna Singh. âWith record population growth, our government will continue to invest in our schools as more cities like Âé¶čAV welcome new students to their classrooms.â
This expansion can take place because of $7.5 million in funding. It will be a prefabricated addition that aligns with the provinceâs CleanBC targets and meet B.C.âs enhanced energy requirements.
âWe welcome this prudent investment in our growing community,â said Central Okanagan Public Schools board of education chair Lee-Ann Tiede. âAs we serve more students each year, projects like this offer an efficient way to build on our safe, welcoming and sustainable learning spaces.â
Over the last six years, the provincial government has used around $177 million to create 2,220 new student seats in the Central Okanagan.
