A charity event originally planned for summer 2023 and rescheduled due to devastating wildfires, came back in spectacular fashion this month.

The Once in a Blue Moon Charity Event raised $2.5 million for the Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (CYAC) on July 11 at the O'Rourke Family Estate Winery in Lake Country.

Rhonda Hymers, with Hymers Private Wealth of RBC Dominion Securities Inc., spearheaded the fundraiser.

“There aren’t words to express the depths of our gratitude to Rhonda and the community of supporters she has rallied around the CYAC,” Ginny Becker, executive director, said. “One in three children in our community is impacted by abuse and violence. To see so many people ready to stand up for kids is incredibly moving.”

Hymers added that the support was overwhelming.

“It was truly a night to remember, filled with generosity and solidarity for the Child & Youth Advocacy Centre of Âé¶čAV and I was so thankful to inspire such a special night."

Founding sponsors for the event also included:

  • Begrand Fast Design;
  • Bird Construction;
  • Chambers Group;
  • Frame Custom Homes;
  • Jane Hoffman Realty;
  • Kal Tire;
  • Âé¶čAV BMW/Mini;
  • Âé¶čAV Toyota;
  • MAKR Group;
  • Mauro Realty;
  • MQN Architects;
  • O’Rourke Family Estate;
  • Predator Ridge;
  • Sentes Automotive;
  • Tommy Gun’s Original Barbershop.

The CYAC provides life-changing services to children and families who have been impacted by child abuse and neglect.

Funds raised will play a crucial role in furthering its work.
