City council was unanimous in its support of a liquor licence for the Royal Canadian Legionâs new home.
The Legionâs (Branch 26) former home at 1380 Bertram Street was at the corner of St. Paul St. and Doyle Avenue. Now, the Legion is working on relocating to 908 Wilson Ave., and part of that move includes transferring its liquor license to the new spot. The Legion applied to increase its capacity from 156 to 213 people at Mondayâs (Mar. 3) council meeting.
âIâm pleased to see the Legion getting a home after what theyâve been going through,â Councillor Rick Webber said. âItâs very positive.â
In response to potential neighbourhood concerns, the Legion has put together a noise mitigation plan.
It is making sure its new building has sound-reducing windows and will limit the use of outdoor spaces late at night, and control the noise levels of events. The Legion has also encouraged residents to reach out with any questions or concerns, either directly to them or the city.
âItâs been a long time coming,â added Coun. Maxine DeHart. âWeâve all been heart-felt for the Legion, weâre so happy. Iâm looking forward to the ribbon-cutting.â
While council has given its approval, the licence application now goes to the provincial Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch for final approval.
