High-school dropout turned 'world's best' guitarist playing in Okanagan

Master musician Pierre Bensusan coming to Kamloops, Vernon, Salmon Arm, Penticton, Rossland, Nelson and Kimberley

Considered a superstar in Europe, Pierre Bensusan is returning for a special tour in North America.

The multi-award winning acoustic guitar virtuoso is French-Algerian. Teaching himself how to play guitar at age 11, Bensusan quit school at age 16.

He recently wrapped a sold-out tour of China, and just completed the West Coast U.S. shows as part of his historic 50th anniversary tour: One Guitar - One Voice.

Bensusan has seven shows in B.C.:

  • July 5 - Kamloops - The Effie Arts Collective;
  • July 6 - Vernon - Killiney Beach Community Hall;
  • July 9 - Salmon Arm - Meikles Social Art House;
  • July 10 - Penticton - The Hub on Martin;
  • July 11 - Rossland - The Flying Steamshovel Inn;
  • July 12 - Nelson - Taghum Hall;
  • July 13 - Kimberley - Kimberley Arts at Center 64;

He is known as Mister DADGAD (an alternative guitar tuning, also known as Celtic tuning) for his mastery of the unique guitar tuning style.

Winner of the Independent Music Award for his triple live album Encore, voted Best World Music Guitarist by Guitar Player Magazine reader’s poll, winner of the Rose d’Or at the Montreux Festival for his debut album, Bensusan is recognized as one of the greatest guitar players of the 21st century.

Late American guitarist and songwriter Michael Hedges said: “Pierre is one of my favourite guitarists. He has created a new way of playing and is the king of the DADGAD tuning.â€
