Officially, the summer solstice arrives in 2023 just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21.
Solstice, schmolstice says the Downtown Vernon Association.
âForget summer solstice. In Vernon we celebrate the start of everyoneâs favourite season at the Downtown Vernon Sunshine Festival,â said DVA marketing manager Peter Kaz.
The 29th annual DVA Sunshine Festival is set for Saturday, June 17. The past two years, the DVA held a successful alternative called Sunshine âDayâ that focused on the businesses (while working around regulations for events).
âThis year, we are closing off six city blocks to transform 30th Avenue into a vehicle-free playground for both children and adults,â said Kaz. âWhile showcasing our wonderful downtown businesses and a few outside vendors, you wonât get bored. Grab the squad and bask under the Okanagan sun (or cloud).â
The 29th Annual Sunshine Festival is presented by VantageOne Credit Union. It is a free event with free parking at all meters. Play games, meet mascots, listen to live music throughout, find new treasures, eat, dance, shop and so much more.
A sample of what you will see:
- The Food Zone which consists of food trucks, picnic tables w/umbrellas;
- The main stage for bands (on every hour from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.) and more;
- Childrenâs activities can be found in The Kids Zone (the 2900 block). Find games, music, a reptile show, face painting, illusionist, balloon animals and more.
âAt noon LOOK UP! We have a special surprise for you,â said Kaz.
