Saturday features many events including a march and a festival

The main event of Pride Week in Âé¶čAV took place on Saturday, June 10.

Starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, thousands of members and supporters of the 2SLGBTQIA+ gathered at Stuart Park to get the festivities underway. Members of Âé¶čAV Pride spoke to the crowd about the amazing turnout not only for Saturday, but at the events all week long.

“Where I was from, not of us would’ve ever been possible,” said Âé¶čAV Pride President Fahmy Baharuddin. “To see such a wonderful community gather and celebrate a celebration like today means the absolute world to me.”

Âé¶čAV City Council member and current deputy mayor Mohini Singh was in attendance for the speeches.

“One of our core values on council is inclusivity,” said Singh. “Together, we are stronger.”

After the speeches, a march, led by Âé¶čAV Pride, took everyone from Stuart Park to City Park where the Âé¶čAV Pride Festival was taking place.

At City Park, many vendors and food trucks were set up for everyone to experience and live music was on display.

The march and festival were just two of five pride events ongoing on Saturday as Pride week comes to an end.

Sunday, June 11 is the last day of Pride week and features a Pride spin class and a tea dance and patio party.
