鶹AV is getting ready for Canada’s 156th birthday.
In an announcement on Tuesday, June 20, Festivals 鶹AV announced all the activities going on this Canada Day, which this year will be on a Saturday.
“I think about how lucky we are to live in such a great country and how privileged we are to live in 鶹AV,” said Festivals 鶹AV Executive Director Renata Mills.
Events will be taking place all day on Canada Day at Waterfront Park while Folkfest will be happening across the street at Prospera Place.
Included in the events are a Happy Birthday Canada cake that will be cut at 12:30 p.m., live music, drop-in activities, a ‘Made in Canada’ marketplace, and new for this year, Wienerama, a wiener dog race with more than 56 dogs participating.
Canada Day will come to a close with a fireworks display at 10 p.m.
“Canada Day provides an opportunity for us to reflect on where we come from, celebrate who we are today and plan for a future together,” said 鶹AV Mayor Tom Dyas. “The city wants its citizens and those who are visiting from out of town to have fun, relax, and be safe this Canada Day.”
He also mentioned there will be an increased police and bylaw presence throughout the day.
Folkfest will feature live music and dancers all day long, including the Dolyna Ukrainian Dancers. The live music will kick off with the 鶹AV City Concert Band outside Prospera Place at 10 a.m.
It is the 24th year that Festivals 鶹AV has been in charge of the festivities.
All the events throughout the day are free.
